Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
A high quality training course specifically designed for the construction industry. The course is aimed at site managers, agents and supervisors and gives a thorough understanding of the key health and safety issues on site. The course aims to help candidates develop a better understanding of their moral and social responsibilities, whilst also gaining the skills and knowledge required to manage health and safety matters on site, in compliance with legislation.

The SMSTS is a 5 day course with an examination at the end. On successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded the Construction Site Managers Safety Certificate that is valid for 5 years.

‘NEW” IOSH Supervising Safely –Training Course
Aims: The course aims to provide Supervisors with the relevant knowledge and skills required to Supervise safely.
Who should attend? Those with a Supervisory function in their role, who are seeking the knowledge and information required to be able to comply with their Health and Safety responsibilities.
Duration: The course is designed to be delivered over 3 days. . Learning objectives: On successful completion of the course, the delegates will understand how training and good Supervision is fundamental to ensuring good Health and Safety.
The course: The course is delivered in five (5) modules, an overview of the modules are as follows:
Module 1 – The Supervisor’s Role - This is relating to the role in the workplace of the Supervisor, the information and experience he will require to assist in handling Health & Safety situations, dealing with employees concerns, behavioural safety issues, ensuring supervisors are aware of their responsibilities, promotion of a good safety culture, etc.
Module 2 - Hazards, Risk and Control Measures – This module examines the Supervisor’s role in the identification of hazards, evaluation of risk and how to implement with team involvement, suitable control measures /workplace precautions. Various generic workplace hazards are explored in this section.
Module 3 – Improving Safety Performance – This module is to ensure Supervisors are aware of the skills required to deliver training such as induction and tool box talks to improve Safety performance and also the specific legislative requirements for training and accident and near miss reporting and investigation.
Module 4 - Communication – This module deals with communication between Supervisor, management and the workforce. The requirement for managers and supervisors to consult with employees on matters which relate to Health and Safety. The requirements for Supervisors to communicate emergency procedures etc. Methods on communication to those who are not employees, i.e. visitors, contractors, etc on issues of Health and Safety.
Module 5 – Environmental Awareness – this module examines the supervisor’s role in reducing and controlling pollution and waste in the workplace. Examples of environmental issues and control measures will be demonstrated.
